DESCRIPTION
[Show/Hide]
In contemporary society, the emphasis is placed on the scientific and technological approach, which is founded upon rationality and logical thinking. This is at the expense of the humanistic and philosophical dimensions of existence, where emotions and thoughts are of paramount importance. Modern society exhibits a dichotomy in its approach to emotional expression. On the one hand, those who are less empathetic, and therefore more resolute to achieve their objectives, are rewarded, while, on the other hand, the most basic drives and emotions are leveraged to prompt consumers to purchase products and objects. Acknowledging this dichotomy is an indicator of emotional intelligence (EI), but it is not sufficient, as EI comprises at least five distinct yet interconnected components: self-awareness, self-regulation, motivation, empathy and social skills.
The term emotional intelligence has become a commonplace expression in recent times. It is expressed in the form of emotional quotient (EQ) in personality tests. In essence, EI is the ability to understand and manage one’s own and others’ emotions. Over the last decades of the 20th century, it attracted the attention of renowned psychologists. They described it as a form of social intelligence. This entails the capacity to monitor the feelings and emotions of oneself and others. It also involves employing these emotional resources to channel one’s thoughts and provide meaning to one’s actions.
In order to develop emotional awareness and intelligence, it is first necessary to embark on an introspective quest of self-discovery. It may appear elementary, but it is imperative to recognize that all emotions, thoughts and experiences originate from within the individual. Therefore, in order to establish mature and mutually beneficial relationships with others, it is first necessary to gain an accurate understanding of one’s own identity, including one’s fundamental desires and aspirations. The objective of this personality test is to provide insights and information regarding an individual’s level of emotional awareness, while also taking into account the social and relational aspects involved. Its focus is on the emotional side of the human experience.
